We are battling Parkinson’s one punch at a time via our non-contact boxing program that has been scientifically shown to help slow and even regress symptoms. Beyond boxing, we incorporate functional fitness and other martial arts in ways that are designed to move our “fighters” beyond the neurological and lifestyle hurdles they face as a result of the disease.
Founder, owner and head coach Karen Johanson entered the world of fitness specifically to help people with Parkinson’s after seeing the devastating impact of the disease on her father. When she discovered the global Rock Steady Boxing program, it was an obvious fit with her experiences in martial arts and action sports. Weeks after attending training camp in Indianapolis, she opened the first Rock Steady Boxing affiliate in the Pacific Northwest and only affiliate in Washington state. When she became aware of other needs facing PwPs and their caregivers, and created Beat PD, an umbrella organization designed to help battle Parkinson’s via other holistic health tools. Beyond Rock Steady Boxing, Beat PD offers personal training via one-on-one and small group environments. Stay tuned for details about upcoming health, wellness and nutrition coaching offerings! Signing up for our newsletter is one of the best ways to keep on top of all the ways we’re helping people with Parkinson’s.
